Croque-MonsieurThis hot, fried sandwich - a speciality of France - may be served either as a snack, an hors-d'oeuvre or as a savoury.

  • 8 slices White Bread, square
  • 75 grams Butter
  • 4 slices Ham, lean
  • 125 grams Cheddar Cheese, grated
  • Oil for Frying

{tab Instructions}

  1. Butter the bread and cover four of the slices with the ham and cheese.
  2. Top with the remaining bread, and press the sandwich firmly together.
  3. Trim off the crusts, and cut each sandwich into three fingers.
  4. Fry the bread fingers in hot oil until golden brown on both sides.
  5. Drain on absorbent paper before serving.
