Fresh Fruit SaladVary this easy fruit salad with whatever fruits you can find in the shops. Tropical fruits make a nice addition too such as mango, passion fruit or even persimmon, or any other fruit you want, this is a basic recipe.

  • 125 grams Sugar
  • 2 tablespoons Lemon Juice
  • 1 tablespoon Kirsch
  • 225 grams White/Black Grapes
  • 2 medium Dessert Apples
  • 2 medium Dessert Pears
  • 2 medium Oranges
  • 2 medium Bananas

  1. Put the sugar, with 150 ml water, in a small pan, heat gently to dissolve the sugar, then bring to the boil for 2 - 3 minutes.
  2. Set aside until cold, then add the lemon juice and Kirsch and pour into a large serving bowl.
  3. Peel the grapes and remove the pips.
  4. Add the grapes to the sugar syrup in the bowl.
  5. Wipe the apples, quarter them, discard the cores and thinly slice the apple quarters into the bowl.
  6. Halve and peel the pears, remove the cores and cut the pears into chunks.
  7. Add to the bowl.
  8. Peel and cut the oranges into segments, and squeeze the orange membranes into the bowl.
  9. Peel and slice the bananas and add, with the oranges, to the bowl.
  10. Turn the fruit in the syrup.
  11. Cover and leave in a cool place, preferably not the fridge, for 1 - 2 hours to develop the flavours.
  12. When fresh strawberries are available,use 1 apple and 1 pear and include 225 grams, hulled and halved small strawberries.
  13. Stoned cherries, plumbs and greengages, halved apricots, sliced peaches and red currants are also good for fresh fruit salad, as are pineapple, grapefruit and melon.
